Last June, the JEC Innovation Awards ceremony took place in Chicago, Illinois, where our project Marina de Empresas was awarded in the “building” category.
The JEC group is the largest organization in the composite industry in Europe and the world. It has a network of 250,000 professionals. Its mission is to promote and develop new materials so these awards celebrate its use and its growing applications.
For those who do not know them yet, the composites are those materials that are formed by 2 or more base elements. These have usually different properties and, when they mix, these qualities work together as if they were one.
Generally, one of these qualities is the durability and the resistance to corrosion. Due to the proximity to the sea, one of the main design constraint was the use of durable materials and resistant to environmental aggressiveness. That’s why we chose a composite, FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastic). It is an innovative material in the world of architecture. It has traditionally been used for the construction of buoys and boats. We use it to cover the building with the help of the companies OwensCorning and Miraplas. We share with you some pictures of the composites installation bellow.
