The project for the adaptation of the new Mercadona headquarters in Porto (Portugal) arises as an opportunity to design a new operations space that aims to transform the existing office model and update it to new trends and technological requirements.
With the support of the international consultancy firm BICG, the project has been based on the application of the “activity-based working” model with which it is intended to break with the system of isolated and independent departments and implement an open, agile and flexible office concept.
It is a strategy based on mobility in which there are no fixed positions assigned to the employees, offering multiple options to develop the daily activity in the most appropriate way and always seeking to foster the communication between the workers themselves.
With an area of 2,500 m2, the program is divided into three floors. Besides of the main access to the building, on the groundfloor is located the main meeting room or auditorium for 60 people. The office program is developed on the first and second floor.
