The Friends of the Reina Sofía Museum Foundation, in collaboration with Ramón y Cajal Abogados and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, organized the 6th edition of the Collecting Symposium, an event focused on analyzing the crucial role of private collections in contemporary art and their close relationship with the architecture of the spaces that house them.

Under the theme Habitar el arte: Colecciones, arquitectura y territorio (Living Art: Collections, Architecture, and Territory), projects were presented that exemplify new ways of activating historical heritage through contemporary art, contributing to the development of museums and art centers in cities with a vibrant cultural scene and growing international recognition.

In this context, Amparo Roig, architect partner at ERRE, and Javier Molins, artistic advisor at the CAHH, shared the mission of the Hortensia Herrero Foundation for heritage preservation. They discussed the complex challenges and historical layers that the ERRE team faced during the rehabilitation and transformation of the Palacio Valeriola and delved into the works that form the collection, highlighting the site-specific contemporary art pieces created for the space.

In this edition, the Hortensia Herrero Art Centre was one of the three featured institutions, alongside the Casacuberta Marsans Collection, located in the former St. Saver Hospital in the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona, and the Asociación Colección Arte Contemporáneo (ACAC), based at the Museo Patio Herreriano in Valladolid, housed in the former Monastery of San Benito. These three private collections are housed in historic buildings that have undergone significant architectural transformations to integrate contemporary art.
