TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION
THE FIRST ARENA COVERED WITH AN EXTERIOR CERAMIC SKIN
Roig Arena is wrapped in a dual exterior skin. The first layer, designed for optimal thermal and acoustic insulation, and the second layer, composed of ceramic skin manufactured by TAU Cerámica, serves a critical solar control function by blocking direct sunlight, ensuring a more comfortable indoor environment.
Progressing at a remarkable pace, this project stands out as the first arena in the world to feature a facade made entirely of ceramic skin. This innovative material not only provides a distinctive finish but also incorporates a raised pattern of dots that mimics the texture of a basketball — the primary sport to be hosted in this state-of-the-art venue.
Comprising 8,600 individual pieces, this ceramic facade will become a defining feature of the Arena.
OTHER MILESTONES
-
- The assembly of the auxiliary training court structure is progressing steadily, providing an essential space to complement the arena’s sports usage.
- The closure of the Service Yard area is underway, enabling the construction of access stairs.
- Preparations are being made for the load test of the post-tensioned slab, including the creation of bathtubs to evaluate its resistance.
- The installation of the louver structure has begun in the west zone, one of the most challenging areas due to its larger overhang and its role as the location of the iconic screen “eye”.
- Regarding the interior of the building, the first seats and stair treads of the stands have been installed. Additionally, most of the bathrooms are tiled, and progress is being made on the finishes in the circulation areas.
With each milestone, this project establishes itself as a benchmark in design and technology applied to sports venues, setting a new standard in contemporary architecture.
Stay tuned because an intense and important year is ahead for the Roig Arena project!
