THE HORTENSIA HERRERO ART CENTER WINS THE ART AND BUSINESS AWARD IN THE BEST IDEA CATEGORY
The Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum hosted the V Art and Business Awards ceremony last night. The gala was closed by the Deputy Director General of Registers and Documentation of Historical Heritage of the Ministry of Culture, Carlos González-Barandiarán, where the team from ERRE arquitectura won the award in the Best Idea category for the Hortensia Herrero Art Center project.
These awards, promoted by ARS Magazine, have established themselves as the most important in the sector, highlighting and valuing the good harmony between the public and private sectors.
At the event organized by ARS Magazine, 7 awards were presented, recognizing the role of public institutions and private entities linked to the fine arts both in Spain and abroad.
The awarded categories were: Best Donation, Best Restoration, Best National Exhibition, Best International Exhibition, Best Acquisition of Spanish Art, Best Idea, and Best Patronage.
Below is the jury’s evaluation:
One category we always want to highlight is Best Idea, which in this case has been very unique: the recovery of a space of great historical importance but very complicated. The ERRE arquitectura studio has dedicated five years of work to convert the Valeriola Palace, located in an old neighborhood of Valencia, into a Contemporary Art Center. The task has not been easy. The archaeological remains of a Roman circus and the Jewish quarter lay beneath the current building. The rehabilitation has allowed for the creation of an exhibition space of more than 3,500 m2. The project has involved restorers, archaeologists, artisans, and, of course, architects.
José Martí, Amparo Roig, and María Ángeles Ros have achieved what is now a reality: the Hortensia Herrero Art Center, which currently houses an important collection with works by Andreas Gursky, Anselm Kiefer, Georg Baselitz, and Anish Kapoor, among others. This ambitious project makes them worthy of the Best Cultural Idea Award. José Martí, Amparo Roig, and María Ángeles Ros from ERRE arquitectura received the award, which was presented by the president of the Foundation and Art Center, Hortensia Herrero.
We want to thank the entire ARS Magazine team for this recognition of the Hortensia Herrero Art Center and the entire ERRE Architecture team who made it possible.
