The Hortensia Herrero Art Center has been selected as one of the 70 projects featured in the group exhibition ‘Regenerations: China and Spain in the Mirror’, which can be viewed at the La Casa de la Arquitectura in Madrid until April 30, 2026.
In the words of the curators, Li Xiangning and Manuel Blanco, the exhibition establishes: “A dialogue between two architectural traditions — Chinese and Spanish — that, from different geographies and contexts, share the ideals of building without destroying, transforming without forgetting, and regenerating without erasing the trace of time.” This varied selection of projects highlights: “new forms of urban regeneration, sustainability, and respect for the memory of the place, from the rehabilitation of historical buildings to ‘acupuncture’ interventions capable of reactivating neighborhoods and landscapes.”
The Hortensia Herrero Art Center gave the ERRE team the opportunity to intervene in the historic center of Valencia and recover an architectural-artistic heritage spanning several centuries. From the ruins of the Roman circus and the remains of the medieval Jewish quarter to the original 17th-century Baroque palace itself, adapted to its new use as a museum. The interiors were carefully restored to house and display the select collection of contemporary art, which today establishes the art center as an internationally recognized cultural space.
The ‘Regenerations: China and Spain in the Mirror exhibition’ is the result of research developed by the University of Tongji in Shanghai and the Polytechnic University of Madrid.
