The exhibition ‘REGENERACIONES: China and Spain in the Mirror’ comes to Barcelona, 2026 World Capital of Architecture

Following its presentation at La Casa de la Arquitectura in Madrid last October, the exhibition REGENERACIONES: China and Spain in the Mirror begins a new stage of its tour at CASA CUPRA Raval in Barcelona, as part of the city’s World Capital of Architecture 2026 programme.

The exhibition brings together 35 projects from Spain and 35 from China to explore the transformation of cities and new approaches to intervening in the built environment. Through a wide range of architectural perspectives, it highlights the potential of urban regeneration to address today’s challenges by balancing sustainability, innovation and the preservation of historic heritage.

Among the selected Spanish projects is the Hortensia Herrero Art Centre, an intervention that demonstrates how adaptive reuse can breathe new life into heritage through a contemporary architectural approach. The project transforms the 17th-century Valeriola Palace into a contemporary art centre while revealing and celebrating the building’s many historical layers: from Roman archaeological remains to the successive transformations it has undergone over the centuries.

The exhibition will be on view at CASA CUPRA Raval until 18 July, offering visitors a selection of projects that showcase architecture’s ability to regenerate cities and foster new relationships between heritage, culture and society.
